ignore the names.

“Of course i remember you Garrett, how could i forget you?” Lola let her breathing even out a little before she continued. “Why did you leave?” she hadn’t meant to say that. She turned away and mentally kicked herself in the head. There was a brief silence and a clearing of a throat before anymore words were passed between them. “So, you’re at college then?” he asked. Lola looked at him, fighting tears back, and nodded. She couldn’t bring herself to speak. She held the mug of hot coco in both her hands. There was an awkward silence between them and Lola almost wished she’d carried on back home, if she had done, this charade would have been avoided. She finished her drink and gathered her bags.
“I’ll see you around,” she mumbled standing up. “At least let me walk you home, give me a chance to explain myself,” she looked up into his eyes again. “No,” she rushed past him and out into the street, running through the masses of people, the snow crunching under her feet. She hoped he didn’t follow him, she stopped at the corner and turned back to check, he wasn’t. She breathed out slowly. “you should know you cant get away from me that easily, i know this place like the back of my hand.” Lola stared up at him, amazed that he’d got to where she was so quickly. A million thoughts were flying through her head. “Garrett, i cant talk to you right now,” she turned to walk away from him but he grabbed her shoulder. “If you could just hear me out,” “No, there’s nothing you can say. You just left, you never said why, you never said where you were going. I almost went insane with worry, and then Kennedy said you’d called him, i mean it wasn’t like we were together or anything. Thanks for the concern, love you too. Now excuse me, Kennedy, my brother in case you forgot, is expecting me for dinner.” She elbowed past him without another word. He watched after her, stunned into silence by her harsh reality of words. He thought about calling after her but nothing more than a breath escaped his lips.
Lola walked quickly walked to her brothers apartment, of course she’d told a complete lie to Garrett. Her brother wasn’t expecting her at all, she just needed a getaway excuse. She hastily knocked on the door after brushing the snow from her sleeves and her brother appeared at the door. “this better be important. I was playing halo,” “I know i heard. What if i told you, i brought food?” Kennedy eased up a little and smiled taking the bags from her. “wait, you’re playing halo alone?” she asked. Kennedy shook his head, “I have a friend ‘round, you haven’t met him yet.” His smile widened to a grin and Lola felt a sense of nervousness in her stomach. “Don’t make a fool of me,” she begged as Kennedy dragged her into the large living room. Cushions littered the floor and empty bottles of Mountain Dew lined the perimeter of the room. In the centre of the cushions was a small circle where the two boys were sat. Lola hid behind her much taller brother, she didn’t like meeting new people at all. It was way out of her comfort zone. “Can we pause for a few John?” Kennedy asked. “I have someone for you to meet.” John stood up in the middle of the room and Lola peered out from behind her brother. From what she could see he was tall and skinny, dressed in a pair of tight black jeans and a baggy white tank top. “Lola, don’t be shy,” Kennedy laughed. She walked out from behind her brother, scowling at him as she did so. “John meet Lola.” Lola rolled her eyes and gritted her teeth and held out her hand. John took it and kissed it. She was expecting him to shake it, not kiss it. “pleased to meet you,” he wore a large grin on his face and Lola detected an accent but she couldn’t make out what accent it was exactly. She returned his smile and turned back to her brother. “well i better leave you boys to your games. I wont stop you,” she reached for the handle on the door that led back to the kitchen. “Stay for dinner?” Kennedy offered. “Another time Kennedy, i have a lot on my mind,” “Like…” he asked her. “Garrett’s back, i bumped into him in the coffee shop and he wanted to walk me home and…” she went silent. “It doesn’t matter actually, he’s back and i don’t think he’s leaving anytime soon. Just so you know. I’ll come see you tomorrow, promise” she grabbed her brother, hugged him and left the flat making her way back to her own home.
