next bit.
by the time Lola got home it was almost dark, she decided to take the long way, avoiding the coffee shop and more importantly avoiding Garrett. She shivered from the cold as she latched her door shut. She threw her coat and scarf onto the sofa and submerged herself in a warm bath. She let her thoughts run wild. She thought back to two winters ago when Kennedy had introduced to Garrett for the first time. She closed her eyes and let the memory take over her mind.
“Lola, you look fine, its not like you’re meeting the queen!” kennedy laughed as Lola put the finishing touches to her outfit. “you’re taking me out to meet a guy, ok? Stop complaining.” Lola rushed into the kitchen and grabbed her jacket and scarf before Kennedy took her out for an early Christmas meal with an old friend of his. They walked into the restaurant and sat down with a rather short man with brown hair and a pierced nose. He was dressed in tight black jeans, a black and white checked shirt and a black waistcoat. Kennedy sat in front of him and i sat beside Kennedy. “So this is the lovely Lola then?” the man asked. Kennedy nodded. “Well, i wouldn’t call myself lovely, but thank you…” Lola paused, realizing she didn’t know his name. “Oh, my name is Garrett,” he beamed a bright smile at her and she turned beetroot red. They ordered their meal ate and then went for a walk. Part way through the walk Kennedy got a call that forced him to leave Garrett with Lola. “Make sure she gets home safe? There’s a problem i have to attend to,” “Sure thing.” Kennedy walked off one way and Garrett led Lola the other. They walked for hours, just getting comfortable and talking, then it started to snow. “I better get you back before you catch a cold,” Garrett smiled. “Sure,” Lola replied with a wide grin. Garrett walked her the whole way back to her apartment, she’d only just moved in. She invited him in for a warm drink and a sit down, she figured his legs must be as tired as her own, and he graciously agreed. She sat him down on the sofa and made a pot of coffee. They sat in silence for a little while before Garrett bravely broke it. “You have such pretty eyes,” he commented as he moved closer to look at them in more detail. Lola felt a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. She leaned forwards to him and caught his hand with the tips of his fingers. Then it all happened in a single moment. He grabbed her hand, stroked her face and kissed her, softly at first.
Lola jumped in the bath as though the memory was hurting her to remember. The water was cold and her hair was almost dry. She got out drying herself off and walked into the living room. There was the sound of a car pulling up outside and she moved to the window to inspect. A tall man climbed from the car and she recognised him instantly. It was John, he must live close to her. She thought nothing more of it, closed the curtains and made herself a cup of coffee before settling down in front of the television for the night.
